AIR CONDITION TECHNICIAN SCOPE OF WORKS
Air Conditioning (AC) technician covers a broad range of duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HV. The work can be in residential, commercial, or industrial settings, with specific tasks varying based on the type of system and level of expertise.
Installation and setup
•Install new systems: Mount and install new air conditioning units and other HVAC equipment, following manufacturer specifications and building codes.
•Assemble components: Fabricate and install ductwork, and assemble parts like condensers, compressors, and motors.
•Connect electrical wiring: Install and connect electrical components and wiring to ensure the system runs safely and correctly.
Test new installations: Conduct start-up and system testing to confirm that the new equipment is functioning properly and efficiently.
•Maintenance and inspection
•Perform preventative maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance to ensure system efficiency and longevity. This can include cleaning and replacing filters, checking refrigerant levels, and lubricating moving parts.
•Inspect and clean components: Clean condenser and evaporator coils and check fan blades for proper operation.
•Check safety controls: Inspect and test safety controls, electrical connections, and system controls to ensure safe operation.
•Maintain records: Keep detailed logs of all maintenance tasks performed, parts used, and system performance.
•Calibrate and test: Use pressure gauges and other diagnostic tools to test and calibrate system components, including thermostats, to ensure they are working correctly.
Diagnosis and repair
•Troubleshoot and diagnose faults: Use advanced technical knowledge and diagnostic tools to identify electrical and mechanical problems within HVAC systems.
•Repair or replace parts: Replace or repair defective or worn-out components, such as compressors, motors, and thermostats.
•Address refrigerant issues: Test for and fix refrigerant leaks, and recharge refrigerant levels according to environmental regulations.
•Respond to emergencies: Promptly and efficiently respond to emergency repair calls for malfunctioning equipment.
Communication and customer service
•Communicate with clients: Explain system problems and the necessary repairs or installations to customers in a clear, understandable way.
•Provide recommendations: Advise customers on energy-efficient solutions and recommend upgrades or replacements for old systems.
•Offer cost estimates: Provide accurate cost estimates for labor and materials before beginning repair or installation work.
•Ensure customer satisfaction: Work effectively with clients to ensure their needs and expectations are met, from initial service calls to follow-ups.
Specialized and advanced tasks
•Work with complex systems: Experienced technicians may work on more complex systems, including chillers, boilers, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, and commercial refrigeration units.
•Manage inventory: Coordinate with warehouses to ensure all necessary parts, materials, and equipment are available and in stock.
•Supervise and train: Senior technicians may train and mentor junior team members and provide technical direction.
•Operate specialized equipment: Use heavy equipment, such as forklifts and man-lifts, when necessary.
