ARC / MIG Welder – Job Description
Job Summary

An ARC / MIG Welder is responsible for performing welding activities using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) processes to fabricate and repair metal structures, ensuring strong, precise, and high-quality welds as per drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
Perform ARC (SMAW) and MIG welding on structural steel, plates, pipes, and components
Read and interpret welding drawings, WPS (Welding Procedure Specification), and symbols
Prepare materials by cutting, grinding, and cleaning surfaces before welding
Carry out fit-up and tack welding prior to final welding
Ensure proper weld penetration, bead appearance, and strength
Operate welding machines and tools safely and efficiently
Inspect welds for defects and carry out rectification if required
Use measuring tools to maintain accuracy and alignment
Follow safety procedures and PPE requirements at all times
Coordinate with fabricators, supervisors, and teams
Skills & Requirements
Proficiency in SMAW (Stick Welding) and MIG Welding
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and welding symbols
Knowledge of different electrodes, filler wires, and shielding gases
Familiarity with various metals (MS, SS, etc.)
Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
Basic knowledge of welding defects and corrective actions
Qualifications
ITI / Technical certification in Welding or Fabrication
Minimum 2–5 years experience in A welding
Working Conditions
Workshop a site-based work
Exposure to heat, sparks, fumes, and noise
Preferred Experience
Structural fabrication (frames, skids, platforms)
Tank and vessel welding
Experience with oil & gas or industrial projects
Familiarity with inspection standards (visual, NDT basics)
