Civil Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing all costs related to the civil, structural, and infrastructure components of major energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimation & Planning: Extract quantities from Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings to prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates for earthworks, concrete foundations, and pipelines.
Contract Administration: Manage the end-to-end subcontract cycle, including preparing tender packages, evaluating bids, and drafting commercial contracts (e.g., NEC or FIDIC).
Valuation & Claims: Conduct on-site measurements to value work done for interim payment certifications and manage variation orders or change requests due to design modifications.
Commercial Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks, perform value engineering to optimize budgets without compromising quality, and assist in resolving contractual disputes.
Material Reconciliation: Track consumption of critical materials (e.g., steel, cement) to monitor wastage and ensure costs align with the approved budget
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management is standard.
Experience: Typically requires 5–10+ years of experience in construction, with a strong focus on high-value oil and gas or infrastructure projects.
Software Proficiency: Mastery of AutoCAD, CostX, Bluebeam, and advanced MS Excel for complex data analysis.
Accreditation: Professional membership in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or similar bodies is often preferred for senior roles
