Marine Technical Services Manager

Reports To: General Manager
Location: Oman, with travel to vessels, ports, shipyards and client locations as required
Role Purpose
The Marine Technical Services Manag will be the company’s principal technical resource for vessel maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and marine service activities.
The position requires a strong practical understanding of vessels and their machinery rather than specialization in only one discipline. The successful candidate should be comfortable assessing problems onboard, identifying practical solutions, coordinating technicians and subcontractors, preparing technical scopes and supervising work through completion.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend vessels to inspect, assess and troubleshoot technical problems.
* Provide practical technical support across vessel machinery and auxiliary systems.
* Diagnose faults and recommend appropriate repair or maintenance solutions.
* Support maintenance and repair of:
* Main and auxiliary engines
* Diesel generators and power-generation equipment
* Governors and engine control systems
* Pumps, compressors and piping systems
* Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
* Cooling, fuel, lubrication and seawater systems
* Deck machinery, winches and associated equipment
* Steering gear and other vessel mechanical systems
* Coordinate mechanical, electrical, fabrication, machining and other specialist works when required.
* Prepare technical scopes of work, repair recommendations, material requirements and manpower estimates.
* Support preparation of quotations by defining technical requirements, expected man-hours, equipment and materials.
* Supervise technicians, subcontractors and service teams onboard vessels and at workshops.
* Coordinate emergency and breakdown repair activities.
* Inspect completed works and ensure acceptable quality before handover.
* Liaise directly with vessel Chief Engineers, Masters, Technical Superintendents and client representatives.
* Identify required spare parts, consumables, tools and specialist services.
* Support sourcing and technical evaluation of spare parts and equipment.
* Maintain service reports, inspection findings, photographs and completion records.
* Support the company in developing new marine repair and technical service capabilities.
* Ensure work is carried out safely and in accordance with vessel, port and company HSE requirements.
Candidate Profile
Education
* Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
* Chief Engineer / Marine Engineer background is highly desirable.
* Strong practical experience may be considered in place of a higher academic qualification.
Experience
* Ideally 8–15+ years of practical mari experience.
* Previous experience as Marine Engineer, Chief Engineer, Technical Superintendent, Marine Service Engineer or senior ship-repair technician is highly desirable.
* Strong exposure to different vessel types such as offshore vessels, tugs, barges, workboats and commercial vessels.
* Experience with ship repair, troubleshooting and field service is preferred.
Technical Knowledge
The candidate should have broad working knowledge of:
* Marine diesel engines
* Governors and engine controls
* Generators and auxiliary machinery
* Pumps and compressors
* Hydraulics and pneumatics
* Fuel and lubrication systems
* Cooling and seawater systems
* Valves and piping
* Deck machinery
* Basic marine electrical systems
* Fabrication and mechanical repair
* Planned and corrective maintenance
* Vessel troubleshooting and breakdown response
The candidate does not need to personally perform every specialist repair but must understand vessels sufficiently well to identify the problem, determine what expertise is required and manage the repair correctly.
