Job Summary:
The OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) Inspector is responsible for inspecting, testing, and verifying tubular products used in drilling operations. This includes drill pipes, drill collars, casings, and BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly) components, ensuring they meet quality standards and project specifications before and during deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect incoming OCTG materials (casing, tubing, drill pipe, drill collars) for defects, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with API standards.
Perform visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections on LEEA, BHA, drill pipe, and drill collars.
Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) such as magnetic particle testing, ultrasonic testing, and thread gauging.
Verify thread integrity and connection specifications for drill collars and drill pipes.
Prepare inspection reports, certificates of conformity, and maintain doentation for all tubular goods.
Coordinate with , drilling engineers, and field operations to ensure compliant tubular selection.
Identify damaged or defective equipment and recommend repair or rejection.
Ensure compliance with safety standards during inspections.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of OCTG standards (API, ISO).
Proficiency in inspection techniques for drill pipe, drill collars, and BHA components.
Experience with thread inspection tools, calipers, micrometers, gauges.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, API specifications, and mill certificates.
Knowledge of LEE A and drilling assembly configurations.
Attention to detail and strong doentation skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Awareness of HSE practices in oilfield operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Petroleum Engineering preferred.
5–5+ years of experience in OCTG inspection, preferably in onsho drilling projects.
Certification in NDT methods or API 5 inspection preferred.
