1. Role Description
Your primary responsibility is to ensure all welding activities—from material receiving to final testing—comply with Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards (SAES) and international codes (ASME, API, AWS).
Key Responsibilities:
Doentation Review: Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
Inspections:
Pre-welding: Check material certificates, joint fit-up, bevel angles, root gaps, and cleanliness.
During welding: Monitor pre-heat temperatures, inter-pass temperatures, and filler metal usage.
Post-welding: Perform Visual Testing (VT) and coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) like Radiography (RT) or Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
Compliance: Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for any work failing to meet standards and monitor the repair process.
Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact between the contractor and the Saudi Aramco PID (Project Inspection Division) for all welding-related quality issues.
2. Qualifications & Requirements
To get "Aramco Approved," you must meet a specific blend of education, international certification, and passing the internal Aramco exam.
Educational & Experience
Degr a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (with 5+ years experience) or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (with 7+ years experience).
Relevant Experience: At least 3–5 years must be specifically in Oil & Gas or Petrochemical welding inspection.
Technical Certifications
You generally must hold at least one of these globally recognized certifications:
AWS-CWI: American Welding Society - Certified Welding Inspector.
CSWIP 3.1: Certified Scheme for Welding Inspection Personnel.
NDT Level II: In VT, RT, MT, and PT (ASNT or PCN) to properly interpret test results.
The "Aramco CBT" (Computer-Based Test)
This is the final hurdle. You cannot take this exam on your own; you must be sponsored by an Aramco-approved contractor or agency.
The Exam: Conducted via Pearson VUE. It tests your knowledge of Saudi Aramco standards (like SAES-W-011 or SAES-W-012) and international codes (ASME Section IX, B31.3).
Approval: Once you pass the CBT and a subsequent interview by an Aramco representative, you receive an SAP Number, which officially authorizes you to sign off on Aramco project inspections.
