Senior Mechanical Engineer (Contracting & Site Execution)
Job Summary
This role is designed for a strategic and technically proficient mechanical engineer with a minimum of 8 years of experience, specifically within the contracting sector and site-based execution. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between design and installation, ensuring that complex mechanical systems—HVAC, Fire Protection, and Plumbing—are delivered with technical integrity and in full compliance with international and local standards.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision & ExecutionDirect Field Management: Monitor and control all day-to-day installation activities for HVAC, Fire Fighting, Plumbing, and Drainage systems.Technical Troubleshooting: Identify site-specific miscoordinations and provide practical engineering solutions to ensure quality is not compromised while maintaining project schedules.Cross-Discipline Coordination: Actively coordinate with Civil and Electrical teams to ensure mechanical services are integrated seamlessly and clearances are obtained in advance of installation.Health & Safety: Monitor site activities for HSE violations and hazards, reporting incidents and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
Technical & Design ReviewDoent Control: Conduct comprehensive reviews of Design & Build Contractor submissions, including IFC drawings, Shop Drawings, Material Submittals, Method Statements, and ITPs.Engineering Calculations: Verify and approve mechanical calculations for hydraulic systems, cooling loads (HAP), duct sizing, and fire pump head calculations prior to equipment procurement.Compliance Assurance: Ensure all designs and installations strictly adhere to international codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA) and local authority regulations (QCDD, QCS, Kahramaa).
Testing, Commissioning & HandoverQuality Assurance: Lead the preparation and execution of Testing & Commissioning (T&C) packages for critical equipment such as chillers, fire pumps, AHUs, and BMS integration.Authority Approvals: Represent the project during inspections with governmental bodies (e.g., Civil Defense) to ensure successful regulatory outcomes and project close-out.Project Close-out: Oversee the preparation of As-Built drawings, O&M manuals, and punch list clearances to facilitate formal handover to the client.
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in the construction industry, with a proven track record in contracting environments and site engineering roles.Technical Proficiency:Expertise in HVAC (Chilled Water & DX), Fire Protection, and Plumbing & Drainage systems.Proficiency in AutoCAD and engineering software like HAP, Elite, and hydraulic modelling tools.Licenses: Valid professional engineering license (e.g., UPDA Grade A or equivalent) and relevant certifications (e.g., PMP) are highly preferred.Skills: Strong leadership abilities, executive-level communication skills for stakeholder meetings, and a focused approach to budget and schedule management.
