Job Summary
The Bitumen Waterproofing Specialist is responsible for the professional installation, maintenance, and repair of bituminous waterproofing systems. This includes torch-applied membranes, self-adhesive sheets, and liquid-applied bitumen. You will work on various structures such as flat roofs, basements, foundations, podiums, and bridge decks to ensure long-term structural integrity.
Core Responsibilities
• Surface Preparation: Clean, dry, and prime concrete or metal substrates. Repair cracks and voids to ensure a smooth, bonded surface.
• Membrane Application: Expertly install bitumen membranes using torch-on methods, ensuring precise overlap sealing (typically 10cm) and watertight joints.
• Detailing & Flashing: Execute complex detailing around pipe penetrations, drains, vents, and upstands (vertical terminations).
• System Selection: Recommend specific bitumen types (e.g., APP-modified for heat resistance or SBS-modified for flexibility) based on the project’s environmental exposure.
• Quality Control: Perform flood tests and visual inspections to verify the system is 100% watertight before the application of protection layers or screed.
• Equipment Maintenance: Safely operate and maintain gas torches, regulators, and specialized application tools.
